Shochu is the traditional distilled spirit of Japan.
The style made using sweet potatoes is called “imo shochu”
and is mostly produced in Kagoshima Prefecture on the island of
Kyushu.
Imo shochu is one of the most commonly enjoyed
alcoholic beverages around Japan.
The method of producing imo shochu in the Meiji period (late
19th century) involved indirectly heating the fermented mash
during distillation.
“Honkaku Shochu Cangoxina” combines the true flavor of
sweet potatoes with the botanical aftertaste that is unique to
indirect heating distillation.
It can be enjoyed on the
rocks, mixed with cold water, or mixed with soda, but it is
recommended to drink straight/neat.
Enjoy the timeless
taste of imo shochu leisurely with your meal or as an
after-dinner drink.

“Cangoxina” appears on 16th century European maps of the world
as the main settlement in southern Japan,
clearly
introducing the up-and-coming town of Kagoshima to the world.
While Japan was in its Edo period
and Europe in its
Renaissance,
the world had its eyes on Kagoshima.
Since then, the message of creating a new Japan has
started from here in Kagoshima!
Inspired by the thoughts
of our ancestors,
we’ll continue to introduce Kagoshima to
the world.
